Role Summary

As R&D Tools Developer, you are an integral member of the Imaging Systems group, a cohesive team of talented software developers and applied researchers. You lead the design and development of tools used at Fio and by select outside partners to accelerate the development and productization of Fio’s image processing, laboratory data analysis and machine learning algorithms. Driven to automate, measure and optimize, you are expert at turning research concepts into reliable, high-throughput data pipelines and flexible tools for domain experts to produce traceable, reproducible insights.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development Fio’s imaging R&D tools and infrastructure
  • Develop multitenancy solutions for large image and metadata sets
  • Develop automated data processing pipelines to replace manual and proof-of-concept research workflows
  • Ensure robust data provenance records are systematically available for all R&D artifacts from raw images and related metadata through derived machine learning models and validated software configurations
  • Monitor, measure and optimize Fio’s data processing infrastructure to meet evolving research and algorithms development demand
  • Take an active role in the overall design and development of Fio’s machine learning and image processing solutions
  • Document technical specifications and test plans based on business and technical requirements

Your Core Strengths

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience using or building workflow automation frameworks to bind heterogenous tools into unified, repeatable processe
  • Experience with parallel and distributed system
  • Knowledge of best practices for reproducible computational research and data provenance
  • Expert knowledge of the Python programming language and packaging tools
  • Strong computer science fundamentals – data structures, algorithms and operating systems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Some of Your Other Talents

  • Experience with test automation and formal verification processes
  • Experience with web application development and security
  • Experience with Linux packaging, deployment and configuration management
  • Experience with other programming languages (ideally: Java, C++, JavaScript)
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and frameworks
  • Knowledge of computer vision and image processing
  • Knowledge of MATLAB or Octave
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services or Azure Cloud Services
